Ten useful sites for getting the latest news on the PS3

News Of The World PS3 Shocker! (no, really)

1. Wikipedia.org www.wikipedia.org
Most people know about Wikipedia these days: It's the largest user-built encyclopædia around. Widely anticipated products like the Sony PS3 tend to get almost constant attention during crucial periods within the launch window, and it's hard to find another site that lists the known facts, and where they're from, in an orderly manner. While it's not the ideal choice for the very latest news on the PS3, it is good for ascertaining what is rumour, what is idle speculation, and what has been confirmed, denied, promised, reneged on, or retracted by the company. System specs and lists of games are also easy to find here.

2. IGN/Gamespy www.IGN.com www.gamespy.com
Love them or hate them, there's no denying that when it comes to games, IGN has all the contacts. They tend to get their information first, or very nearly, and if you can stand to use or subscribe to Fileplanet, it's a great source of promotional videos, trailers, and recent PS3 news.

3. Penny-Arcade Megathread www.penny-arcade.com/forums/
This may seem to be an odd inclusion, but lists of well managed known information, maintained by fans, but not subject to the encyclopædic rules of Wikipedia are hard to come by. Forum posts which evolve into “Megathreads” on the forums of popular video-gamed themed web comic, Penny-Arcade, are a great source of info. Generally speaking, recent PS3 news releases find their way onto the thread within a few days.

4. Playstation.com www.playstation.com
Duh! This is the official source of all information on the PS3. It tends not to be as easy to navigate as the previous sites, so it's generally harder to find all the information you want nicely tabulated. It goes without saying that everything from this source will have Sony's spin on it. It is the definitive source of information regarding the new PS3.

5. PSLand http://www.ps3land.com/
One of the leading community super-sites, run and populated by fans, it is virtually guaranteed to have up to the minute coverage. Dedicated to everything Sony PS, this one of the first places you should check for latest developments.

6. PS3Portal http://www.ps3portal.com/
Another massive community fansite. This one is dedicated specifically to Sony PS3 news, information, and resources, making it more specialised than the previous example.

7. Gamespot www.gamespot.com
Probably IGN's biggest competitor, Gamespot is a massive network of content servers, news, and reviews. It has literally hundreds of sub-sites dedicated to individual games and consoles, Like IGN, they have contacts that can get just about anything, and they know everyone. Always a good source of recent PS3 news releases, with good staff writers.

8. 1up www.1up.com
Another of the massive gaming supersites, 1up has one of the better news reporting departments in gaming journalism, and can generally be relied upon to find everything, and know everything.

9. GamesIndustry.Biz www.gamesindustry.biz
Another somewhat unconventional entry to the list. GI's focus is more upon the corporate side of things, and the state of the industry than targeted to consumers. That said, this only helps it be one of the best sources of accurate reporting on official new releases and clarifications out of Sony, or anywhere else. They spend more time reporting the facts than worrying about what spin they can put on it.

10. Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/
Joystiq is another leading news reporter. They have a surprising knack for finding good information, no matter how hidden away it is on whichever obscure site you care to name. If it's out there, they'll find it. Their reporting is among the better samples to be found in the industry.
